Daffodil Marieke - The Best Yellow Available
The absolute best yellow daffodil available. Strong growing, huge flowers, quick to multiply...did I mention the huge blooms? Very strong stemmed and long lasting. Mid season.
You should know...King Alfred does not exist in Australia, and hasn't for a good 40 years. As the climate warmed, it was replaced with far hardier and improved cultivars. Daffodil Marieke is our absolute favourite yellow. Strong stems, big flowers, long lasting and a hardy and easy to grow variety. If you are looking for 'King Alfred', know you won't find the real one anywhere (more often than not, its Magnifique being sold as King Alfred)...but look no further than Marieke!
Hardy and bright, nothing heralds the start to spring like Daffodils. Their bold, long lasting blooms emerge in Mid Winter (Melbourne) through to early spring and make for exceptional cut flowers.
Daffodils need a full sun position but can tolerate some dappled light. Prepare your beds to a depth of 20cm, making sure the soil is light and fluffy. Plant the bulbs with the 'fat' end down at a depth of 6cm. Allow 10cm between each bulb, however a less full result can be achieved if you choose to plant further apart.
If growing your Daffodils in a pot, select a high quality potting mix that is free draining. Some gravel in the base of the pot will assist with any drainage issues. Ensure the bulb is well fed and watered right up until dormancy.
Daffodils DO NOT require refrigeration and are happy to naturalise in the ground for many years. Feed your bulbs as they come into bloom, and make sure you leave the foliage to fully die down - this feeds and grows NEXT year's flower.
