Pleonie Orchid Formosanum
Simply stunning lilac petals with a white trumpet contrasted by lemon tending yellow markings. Best grown in a pot or fernery type situation.
Native to the Himalayas, Pleonies are mostly a ground dweller, however some species and hybrids thrive in an epiphytic situation. Good drainage is essential and any potting should be done in a fine orchid mix with scoria added to the base of the pots. Perfect specimens in bowls and pots, also thrive when planted inside tree stumps. They do like their tucker, and respond well to tomato style liquid fertilisers. We had a selection of Pleonies potted last season, they were sold in a matter of days highlighting the popularity of these little treasures.
Please note these are vastly different to the ‘Chinese ground orchid’ (Bletilla Striata). Early spring BLOOMING.
