The striking colours of the Water Lily Family add a touch to class and grace to any water way. Ideal for ponds and dams, water lilies bloom throughout the warmer months - generally once the days are lengthening.
All varieties we offer are considered 'hardy' water lilies, and are suited to cooler climate growing. Our selections are frost hardy and flower from October until May, depending on your climate.
Select a sunny position within your pond or dam (at least 6 hours of sun), and plant the rhizome just below the surface, wit the 'nose' or growth tip slightly exposed.
Water Lilies can be grown in containers (and placed in the pond). If container growing, use a pot at least 25cm in diameter. Fill with a mix of garden soil and blood and bone (or slow release fertiliser). Plant your rhizome as above, and cover the pot with 2-3cm of gravel or pebbles to keep soil and rhizome in place.
Water Lilies require at least 20m of water depth, and will perform in up to 1.8m of water depth. If potted your plant should be divided and re-potted every 2 years. A slow release aquatic plant fertiliser should be applied in spring.
